This week was a busy one for the Saskatchewan RCMP, with a snowstorm leading to quite a few accidents on roads and highways around the province.
But while it’s a good idea to check conditions before hitting the road, the RCMP is reminding drivers to “avoid calling 911 or local RCMP detachments for updates on road conditions.”

The Mounties advised drivers to check conditions using Saskatchewan’s Highway Hotline, rather than contacting police.
“Calling 911 must be reserved for emergencies and crimes in progress, and using it in non-emergent situations could prevent someone with a life-threatening emergency from getting help,” the Saskatchewan RCMP said in a statement.
Mounties received reports of 28 collisions on Saskatchewan roads and highways between noon on Wednesday and noon on Thursday, along with 14 other calls about road-related incidents, such as vehicles stuck on highways or in ditches.
“Some areas in central and southern Saskatchewan are still experiencing poor road conditions,” the RCMP noted.
“Saskatchewan RCMP continue to encourage travellers to check road conditions in their area before travelling. If travel is necessary, take things slow on snowy and icy roads.”
