“Investigation determined an adult male, who was armed with a machete, approached two other males in the parking lot,” the RCMP explained in a statement.
“The two groups were not known to each other. During their interaction, one of the adult males was injured.”
Police said the injured man was taken to a local hospital with serious injuries, but no further updates on his condition were available.
The RCMP said officers tracked down the suspect at a rural property near Humboldt the following day. Police said the man was armed with a hatchet, and threatened to harm both the officers and himself.
“Officers deployed a conducted energy device and the male was arrested,” the RCMP said. “The male was taken to hospital with what were described as non-life threatening injuries.”
Police said the 48-year-old man is now facing charges of assault with a weapon, assaulting a peace officer with a weapon, and possession of a dangerous weapon.
