Hunt continues for one man after triple stabbings on Big River First Nation

Saskatchewan RCMP are still looking for a suspect in three stabbings on Big River First Nation on Saturday.

In a late afternoon update on Feb. 16, police said the first reported stabbing was around 3:50 p.m. on Feb. 15 after an altercation between a man and a woman at a home. The woman was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Police said Big River RCMP then received a report that a stabbing had occurred at a second home about 4 p.m., when a group of people entered the home and stabbed a man, who was also taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Then, around 4:20 p.m., RCMP received another report of a man who was stabbed at a third home on Big River First Nation. Police said he was flown by STARS air ambulance to hospital for treatment.

While officers were at the third stabbing, they received a report of an attempted armed robbery with a machete in Victoire, where a man approached a vehicle and threatened the driver. The driver ran away and the man was unable to steal the vehicle and fled on foot, police said.

RCMP named the suspect as 29-year-old Ryan Lachance, who is wanted on a warrant by Big River RCMP for an unrelated aggravated assault that occurred in November 2024.

Lachance is about 5-foot-6 and weighs 150 lbs. He has brown eyes, brown hair and a teardrop tattoo under his left eye. He was last seen wearing a black hoodie with a large white logo on it and black pants.

The suspect is considered armed and dangerous, and should not be approached, police said.

The last confirmed sighting of Lachance was around 5:30 p.m. on Feb. 15 in the Victoire area, and he may be driving a black Kia car with Saskatchewan licence plate 649 NPP or a grey BMW SUV. No licence plate was provided for the second vehicle and police said these details were not confirmed.

RCMP said there would continue to be an increased police presence on Big River First Nation, and asked people to avoid the areas where police officers are present and follow any police direction provided.
