Victim now a suspect in Big River First Nation triple stabbing

A man who RCMP believed to be a victim of a triple stabbing on Big River First Nation has now been arrested and charged.

Following further investigation, Saskatchewan RCMP determined the man was a suspect in the first two stabbings on Feb. 15.

He was stabbed at a home on the First Nation at around 4:20 p.m. that day. Police said he was flown by STARS air ambulance to hospital.

Once released, he was arrested and charged with two counts of aggravated assault, robbery with a weapon and breaking and entering.

RCMP still looking for another suspect

Saskatchewan RCMP are still looking for 29-year-old Ryan Lachance, who is also wanted on a warrant from Big River RCMP for an unrelated aggravated assault back in November 2024.

Lachance is about 5-foot-6 and weighs 150 lbs. He has brown eyes, brown hair and a teardrop tattoo under his left eye. He was last seen wearing a black hoodie with a large white logo on it and black pants.

He is considered armed and dangerous, and should not be approached, police said.

RCMP say he might be in a stolen black Kia Optima with Saskatchewan license plate 649 NPP, but this isn’t confirmed. His whereabouts are currently unknown.

RCMP continue to look for Lachance who has been charged with:

• two counts, aggravated assault
• two counts, robbery
• one count, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
• one count, mischief under $5000 – damage to property
• one count, break, enter and commit
• two counts, fail to comply with release order condition

Timeline of stabbings

Police said the first reported stabbing was around 3:50 p.m. on Feb. 15 after an altercation between a man and a woman at a home. The woman was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Police said Big River RCMP then received a report that a stabbing had occurred at a second home at about 4 p.m. when a group of people entered the home and stabbed a man, who was also taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Then, around 4:20 p.m., RCMP received another report of a man who was stabbed at a third home on Big River First Nation. Police said he was flown by STARS air ambulance to hospital for treatment.

While officers were at the third stabbing, they received a report of an attempted armed robbery with a machete in Victoire, where a man approached a vehicle and threatened the driver. The driver ran away and the man was unable to steal the vehicle and fled on foot, police said.
