REGINA — Saskatchewan’s Opposition NDP wants to know why Premier Scott Moe’s government didn’t have a response ready despite knowing for weeks that U.S. President Donald Trump planned to impose tariffs on Canadian goods.
Moe has said his government is meeting to discuss options, just one day after Trump levelled tariffs of 25 per cent on Canadian goods heading south, along with a 10 per cent levy on energy.
NDP economy critic Aleana Young says it’s baffling that Moe’s government had nothing to offer while other provinces stepped up with retaliatory action.
NDP Leader Carla Beck is calling for Saskatchewan to follow the lead of other provinces and pull American liquor from store shelves.
Ontario Premier Doug Ford is urging that Moe no longer sell potash, uranium and oil to the United States and instead find different markets.
Moe has also said the government will work to expand trade opportunities with other countries.
