The Liberal Party of Canada has a new breath of life after electing former Bank of Canada Governor Mark Carney as leader on Sunday.
Carney was able to win the hearts and minds of the vast majority of Canada’s Liberal voters, walking away with 85.9 per cent of the vote, far outpacing the other candidates.

As he gets settled into his new position and gets ready to pick up the mantle of responsibility that is the position of prime minister, Saskatchewan Conservatives are speaking out.
Andrew Scheer, the Conservative MP for Regina—Qu’Appelle, said that whether the Liberal leader be Carney or Trudeau, things will remain the same.
“Mark Carney is just like Justin Trudeau. He believes in all the same wacko policies that drove up prices, doubled housing costs, unleashed crime and chaos into our streets, and legalized hard drug use,” said Scheer.
“Mark Carney has applauded and supported Trudeau when he cancelled pipelines and landlocked Saskatchewan energy reserves. So it’s not surprising. It’s disappointing that they didn’t go with change for Canadians. But in the next election, Canadians will have an opportunity to vote for change, real change, with the Conservative Party.”
When asked if he was shocked by the election results, Scheer said that he wasn’t, simply because Carney, who does not hold a seat in parliament, was able to avoid a lot of scrutiny and has been able to slip by many of the regular expectations of an elected official.
“He hid from reporters. He still hasn’t disclosed his conflicts of interest and where he has his personal assets,” said Scheer.
“Consider this, he is now prime minister with all the power that comes from that. With the stroke of a pen, he can make major changes to rules and regulations, and Canadians still don’t even know where his personal assets are. So he could potentially be in hundreds of millions of dollars worth of conflicts of interest,” said Scheer, despite the fact that Carney is not prime minister until Trudeau officially steps down.
When it comes to a federal election, Scheer said that Canada is in a dire situation with the country facing trade wars and crumbling international relationships, adding that the Liberal Party is the one to blame.
“If we had an election back in the fall we could have had a stable government with a strong mandate. We had a lame duck prime minister in Justin Trudeau for the past few months dealing with these threats.”
“So it’s this chaotic Liberal Party that’s put Canada in such a vulnerable position. That’s another reason why we need change,” said Scheer.
Michael Kram, Conservative MP for Regina—Wascana, also said that while the Liberals may have a new leader, nothing will change until there is a federal election.
“Mark Carney seems to want to implement many of the same policies that Justin Trudeau has implemented over the last 10 years,” said Kram.
“We still have a $62 billion deficit to deal with. That’s been part of the Liberal record over the last decade, and Mark Carney has been Justin Trudeau’s economic adviser. So it’s Mark Carney’s record as much as Justin Trudeau’s.”
Kram said he is also hoping for a federal election.
“I think it would have been best to have had the election before Trump came into office and imposed all these tariffs and before the Chinese imposed these tariffs. So it’s unfortunate that Justin Trudeau held on to power as long as he did, but it’s too late to change that. Now we just have to make the best of a bad situation.”
