Daniel Wiebe has known what he’s wanted to do for a job since he was a kid.
“In Grade 4 we had a little career day thing where we wrote on a piece of chalkboard what we wanted to be and I held up there, ‘Football Player,’” the Saskatoon product said. “I’ve had that in my room ever since I have been a kid since that point.”

Now the University of Saskatchewan Huskies wide receiver is getting closer to accomplishing that goal as he competes at the CFL national combine in Regina. The combine presents one of the last opportunities for CFL prospects to show their skills to CFL general managers, coaches and scouts.
“I’m feeling good. I feel like I went out there and tested pretty well,” Wiebe said. “Just ready to go play football.”
Wiebe grew up on a farm by Herschel, Sask., and said some of his earliest memories are him throwing the ball around in the field.
“Just as long as I can remember I have been into football,” Wiebe said. “I did play hockey too, but I knew as I got older I was going to go the football route.”
Wiebe attended Holy Cross High School in Saskatoon before committing to the U of S. His best season came in 2024 when he hauled in 66 passes for 923 yards and nine touchdowns.
He said he got a lot of advice coming into the combine so he knew what to expect once he got there.
“I feel like I had a lot of view points coming in and a lot of past Huskies who have done the same thing,” Wiebe said. “It’s been exciting. Lots of nerves but that’s exciting. I’m super happy to be here and just keep it going.”
Wiebe had a 4.52 40-yard dash time — the fifth-fastest time posted on Friday. His 15 bench-press reps were also third among wide receivers.
His shuttle time of 3.95 seconds was the fastest recorded at the national combine since Dylan Hollohan had a 3.89 shuttle in 2012.
“Oh wow. That’s exciting. That’s crazy to hear that,” Wiebe said. “It’s really exciting to be given this opportunity and make the most of it. I’ve been working towards this for a long time. I’m just excited to see where it goes.”
Now he hopes all the hard work leads to getting a call from a CFL team at the draft.
“It means a lot to get this opportunity and be one step closer to making that dream a reality,” Wiebe said.
