Dillon Ricky Whitehawk will, indeed, get a new trial on two murder charges after the Supreme Court of Canada declined to hear the Crown’s appeal in his case.
In October last year, the Saskatchewan Court of Appeal ordered a new trial in the killings of Jordan Denton and Keenan Toto.
Whitehawk had been convicted of first-degree murder in those killings in 2022 – they died in separate instances, but both were drive-by killings.

The appeals court ordered a new trial because the judge in the original trial didn’t allow a question to be asked of potential jurors about bias against members of street gangs and it could have allowed for prejudice.
The Crown tried to appeal that decision to the Supreme Court of Canada, but the court recently declined to hear the appeal.
Now, the decision from the court of appeals stands, and Whitehawk will have to stand trial again for the murders of Denton and Toto.
Whitehawk is already serving a life sentence for the killing of Keesha Bitternose in 2020.
