Two Saskatchewan U18 AAA hockey teams will have an opportunity to bring national championships to the Land of the Living Skies this month.
Over the weekend, both the U18 AAA girls Saskatoon Stars and the AAA boys Regina Pat Canadians booked their tickets to nationals with victories at the western championships.

Saskatoon Stars headed to Esso Cup in Lloydminster
For the first time since 2019, the Stars will represent Saskatchewan at the Esso Cup.
This past weekend at Merlis Belsher Place, the Stars played the Eastman Selects out of Winnipeg in a best-of-three championship series.
After dropping the first game 2-1 on Friday night, the Stars had to play desperate hockey with their season on the line.
In the second game on Saturday, the Stars squeezed out a 5-4 victory and forced a winner-take-all third game.
In the big game Sunday night, Stars forward Halle Duchene netted a hat-trick, while Tarynn Sutter stopped all 33 shots she faced to help lead the Stars to a 6-0 victory.
The Stars now have two weeks to rest up and prepare for the Esso Cup, which begins on April 20 in Lloydminister.
At the Esso Cup, the Stars will face the Edmonton Junior Oilers, Étoiles Laurentides Lanaudière out of Quebec, the Eastern Stars from Atlantic Canada and a team from Ontario which has not yet been determined.
Pat Canadians dominate en route to Telus Cup birth
The Regina Pat Canadians sailed smoothly to a birth in the Telus Cup over the weekend.
In the round-robin stage of the regional tournament, the Pat Canadians played teams from Thunder bay, Kenora and Winnipeg. In their three games, the Pat Canadians outscored their opponents 18-1.
In the championship game on Sunday against the Winnipeg Wild, the Pat Canadians put on a dominant performance, winning 7-1.
Leading the way for the Pat Canadians was Maddox Schultz who had 10 points in four games and was named the tournament’s MVP.
The Pat Canadians’ Jonah Sivertson had six points in four games and was named the tournament’s best forward.
Nationals will begin in Abbotsford, B.C. on April 21. The Pat Canadians will face teams from the Okanagan, Moncton, a Quebec team that hasn’t yet been decided, and hosts Fraser Valley.
