A home in Corman Park, west of Saskatoon, is a “total loss,” according to the City of Saskatoon, after extensive fire and smoke damage.
Saskatoon fire crews were called out to the one-story house just before noon on Thursday.
Pictures and video of the home surrounded by trees and grass show the double garage and roof ablaze, with the fire rapidly spreading to the opposite side of the bungalow.
Heavy black smoke was seen and reported by the first engine while leaving the city.

Corman Park Police, along with the Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency (SPSA), are taking over the investigation into the cause of the fire.
Corman Park struggled with dry conditions last year
Last April, Corman Park didn’t want to take any chances with dry conditions and the looming risk of wildfires.
Saskatchewan’s largest rural municipality, which borders the outskirts of Saskatoon, enacted a total fire ban on April 12, 2024.
The ban covered all open-flame fires, including controlled burns, burning barrels, fire pits and fireworks. Exempt from the ban was indoor fireplaces and gas-fueled equipment such as barbecues.
The ban came after a close call on April 9, 2024, when a controlled burn quickly got out of control. That blaze scorched roughly 500 acres of land and required a handful of homes to be evacuated as a precaution.
Two homes in Corman Park destroyed in August 2024 fire
The reeve of the RM of Corman Park said the community was “devastated” after two homes were destroyed by a brush fire on August 20, 2024.
“It’s a sad day for the community,” Judy Harwood said. “There’s no doubt.”
Harwood said some outbuildings were destroyed in the blaze south of Saskatoon, along with the two homes, but the community is already pulling together and doing everything possible to help those affected by the blaze.
