It will soon be more convenient for people in Saskatchewan to get to the East Coast.
For the very first time, WestJet is adding direct round-trip flights from Regina and Saskatoon to Halifax this summer.

The flights from Regina to Halifax will run on Sundays from June 29 until early September.
The flights from Saskatoon to Halifax will run from June 28 until early September.
James Bogusz, president and CEO of the Regina Airport Authority, said the flights will make it easier for people in Saskatchewan to travel to the East Coast, and will also act as a departure point to several European destinations on the WestJet network.
“They’ve been making a number of announcements of new flights between Halifax airport and a number of European destinations like London and Dublin and Edinburgh and Barcelona, just to name a few,” he said.
“Whether you want to travel within your own country… or you want to go abroad, we’ve got flights that go literally everywhere.’
Bogusz said he hopes the new flight will boost tourism in Regina.
“I think they are looking to build up Halifax as that destination, but also recognize that tourism is a big deal and it is a great city to visit. And hopefully we will have some of those folks visiting our great city as well – kind of a two-way street.”
In a release, Stephen Maybury, president and CEO of the Saskatoon Airport Authority, applauded WestJet for adding the new flight.
“WestJet is a valued partner and currently provides Saskatoon with the highest number of flight options among our air service partners,” Maybury said.
“Their ongoing commitment to enhancing air access supports regional economic growth and strengthens our community’s connectivity. We are thrilled to welcome the addition of Halifax to our route network – further connecting our city and province to Canada and the world.”
There’s no word yet on what the new flights will cost, but WestJet says it’s fulfilling a demand.
John Weatherill, WestJet’s executive vice-president and chief commercial officer, said the new flights represent a significant milestone that will support economic development and provide greater connectivity.
“As demand for summer travel continues to evolve, we are focused on flying people where they want to go, whether it’s reuniting with loved ones in the prairies, exploring new sights in the Maritimes or seamlessly connecting to Europe.”
