Maddox Schultz once again was an offensive force for the Regina Pat Canadians at the Telus Cup.
The 15-year-old Regina product scored a hat trick — his second time accomplishing this feat in just three games — to power the Pat Canadians to a 6-2 win over the Elgin Middlesex Canucks at the Canadian Male U18 AAA Hockey Championship in Chilliwak, B.C.
Schultz currently leads the tournament in goals (six) and points (nine) over three games despite being one of the youngest players at the tournament.
Schultz has continued where he left off following a season where he led the Saskatchewan Male U18 AAA Hockey League in scoring. Over the season, he led the way with 93 points (43 goals, 50 assists) in 44 regular-season contests. He also led the SMU18AAAHL in points during the playoffs with 22 (nine goals, 13 assists).

The Pat Canadians qualified for the Telus Cup after defeating the Kenora Thistles, Thunder Bay Kings and Winnipeg Wild in the West Regionals. It’s the 10th time that Regina has qualified for the tournament — one of just seven clubs to reach double-digit appearances.
In the first period, Schultz was the only player to find the back of the net with his shot getting by Canucks goaltender Brock Lane.
The second period was when the Pat Canadians pulled away in the contest, scoring four goals in the frame. Schultz scored his second of the game while his teammate Jonah Sivertson scored two goals in the second period. Reid Bechard added the fourth goal for the Pat Canadians in the period.
The Canucks’ Josh Myatt also scored in the period to get onto the board.
In the third period, Lucas Van Steensel scored for the Canucks while Schultz scored his third of the game. Regina goaltender Adam Muntain stopped 30 of the 32 shots he faced in the game.
Regina has 14 players on the team who have been drafted by WHL clubs. Schultz is expected to join that list this season as he is the predicted top overall prospect for this year’s draft. The Regina Pats hold the first overall pick.
Schultz also recorded a hat trick in the team’s opening game of the tournament — a 6-1 win over the host Fraser Valley Thunderbirds.
The Pat Canadians won their second game of the tournament on Tuesday with a 3-2 decision over the Moncton Flyers.
Regina has previously won the tournament four times, and a fifth would tie them with Notre Dame and Séminaire Saint-François for the most ever.
Regina (3-0-0-0) is next in action on Thursday at noon against the Okanagan Rockets.
