Chicken’s feet, waffle tacos come to the Queen City Ex

While there are concerts for the adults and the rides for the kids the big draw is almost always the food at the Queen City Ex.

The fair opened Wednesday at Evraz Place and runs until Sunday.

There is plenty of options along the midway this year and many new items to sample — including pterodactyl wings.

“It comes from our pterodactyl farm up north of Fort Mac, it’s all free-range pterodactyls, they can be quite a handful to wrangle,” Simon Wolf-Hellyer from Caveman Club and Grill joked.

The pterodactyl wing is actually made from a turkey wing, but it doesn’t really matter when served alongside chickasaurus-on-a-stick from the same vendor.

If hotdogs are more to your liking, this year’s creation comes from Next Gen Concessions.

“A foot-long hotdog wrapped in bacon, then we cover it with mac and cheese, with also bacon in it, then we cover it in breadcrumbs and green onions on top,” explained Fatima Hunter, who runs the stand.

If you prefer something more traditional, there’s a new twist this year on the corndog. It’s a reuben sandwich, with all the classic ingredients, stuffed inside a corndog.

On the more wild and crazy side, there’s always deep fried chicken’s feet, which is exactly how it sounds.

“Battered, deep fried and something everyone wants to try, they have been hugely popular this year,” Scott Dennis with Chicky’s Chicken maintained.

On the sweeter side, there’s a waffle taco, loaded with ice cream and whipped cream and a toasted marshmallow milkshake.
