For those waiting to see more of backup quarterback Brandon Bridge, you’ll just have to keep waiting.
Bridge entered the game with four minutes remaining after the Riders offence, led by Kevin Glenn, sputtered and struggled all game against the B.C. Defence. Bridge ended up throwing the team’s only two touchdowns.
It had many fans calling to see more of the young Canadian QB, but on Wednesday after practice, head coach Chris Jones poured cold water on the idea.
“He made two plays. He threw the ball to two guys and one of them was a circus catch. Kevin Glenn is Kevin Glenn, he’s our starter,” he said emphatically.
But he also praised his young backup for his talent.
“He’s an athletic quarterback … he was able to get out of the pocket and scramble and as a quarterback, it is important to be able to evade the rush. He did a real nice job the other night and kept his eyes up field and his guys made plays for him,” Jones said.
As for Bridge, he was happy with the way that he played, but he doesn’t see what he did on Saturday night as his opportunity to usurp Glenn as the starter.
“It felt good. Every time you’re out on the field you want to put out a good resume and deliver,” Bridge said.
“Everyone understands their role. Everyone understands that this is Kevin’s team. We’re going to support it,” he added.
And the 17 year CFL vet takes all of it in stride, even taking the opportunity during the game to poke fun at the TSN panel who Glenn knew would be talking about a quarterback controversy.
“I was laughing when I did it and then Bridge came off the field and he hugged me. It’s all fun and games,” he explained.
“That’s just me foreshadowing that I could be on that panel one day because I already know what they’re going to talk about before they talk about it.”Odds and
