How many times does Roger Goodell have to mess up before the NFL goes in a different direction?
Ray Rice was a terrible look for the NFL and it got worse with Greg Hardy and Adrian Peterson and many other players who had questionable suspensions under Goodell’s watch.
Now he’s decided to get tough on rookie running back Ezekiel Elliott. I can’t criticize the move because Elliott’s punishment is as harsh as it should have been for others he was too soft on.
Goodell also had deflategate which was an embarrassing look for the league who got tougher on a half PSI than they did on other New England Patriot controversies.
Suspending the best player for possibly maybe having potentially information on deflating footballs before a game they won by 40.
Oh, and that suspension was 2 games longer than Ray Rice’s original suspension for punching his girlfriend in the face.
But the positive is Goodell has been the shield for his owners and like Gary Bettman and the NHL, that outweighs all the flaws.
As long as they and not the owners get booed, and the owners keep making money, the two worst commissioners in sport will remain at the top.
