There is a resounding belief that the Mayweather and McGregor fight on Saturday is more of a circus sideshow than it is a boxing match.
And McGregor and the UFC, I think, are largely to blame. Their reputation as being a reputable fighting organization has taken its hits along the way.
McGregor is the fast talking, brash, in your face promoting gem but can turn people off. Their tour around the globe was indeed a circus and that further tarnished the brand for this fight.
The money is another thing. Millions and millions for an unproven boxer to take on the undefeated Mayweather seemed like all it is is a cash grab.
But on Saturday, there is no question, it is going to be a legitimate fight. These two are very proud men for their records in the ring or octagon and nobody wants to leave looking like a fool.
Wednesday’s final news conference, aside from the ridiculous money belt, was a lot less of a sideshow.
Saturday will be a great “show”.
And hopefully leaves those doubters that think this isn’t a legitimate fight feeling like they missed something.
