Just days before his retirement from politics and days after he was booted from the Saskatchewan Party, Bill Boyd is facing charges.
The Kindersley area MLA has been charged with three counts under The Environmental Management and Protections Act and one count under The Wildlife Habitat Protection Act.
The specifics of the charges including altering wildlife habitat and ecological lands, altering a waterway and removing material from the bottom of the water way.
The farmland was Ministry of Agriculture crown land. The shoreline was along the South Saskatchewan River.
Boyd announced he was retiring from politics on Aug. 15, just a few days after the premier. He is one of the founding members of the Sask. Party and has a political career dating back decades.
But he was booted from the party just two days ago when the Conflict of Interest commissioner ruled he had fallen below the standards expected of an MLA following a private business trip to China where he misrepresented the government’s involvement in a farm irrigation project.
Boyd’s name also came up in the controversial Global Transportation Hub land deal that the RCMP continues to look into.
Boyd will appear in Kindersley provincial court Oct. 10.
