It used to be easier just calling him a Saskatchewan Roughriders offensive lineman.
When Makowsky joined the CFL team in 1995 he was a shy kid, uncertain of his future after being drafted out of the University of Saskatchewan. Pegged to replace legendary Roger Aldag at left guard, during his 17-year career Makowsky played only one game there while excelling at the other O-line positions. Following a 17-year playing career, he was the team’s all-time leader in games played, a Grey Cup winner and bound for the Canadian Football Hall of Fame. Makowsky had also become the well-spoken, passionate conscience of his football team.
Elected to the provincial legislature before announcing his retirement as a pro athlete, Makowsky has again been learning his role and hopefully continuing as a well-spoken, passionate conscience for his portfolio and his province.
