A six-year-old boy is dead after a dog attack outside a home in Riceton.
Just after 6:40 p.m. on Wednesday, Milestone RCMP and EMS responded to the home in the community, located 49 kilometres south of Regina, for a complaint of a dog attack.
The boy was pronounced dead at the scene.
Two large dogs, reported by police to be Alaskan Malamutes, were seized and euthanized. The dogs were known to the boy.
Regina Humane Society said the dogs were willingly given up by the owner.
RCMP Staff Sgt. Rob Embree said they aren’t naming who the dogs’ owners are at this time due to the investigation being under way.
Police are trying to find out what prompted the attack and are unsure whether one or both dogs were involved.
“You want to get it right so to say it’s going to take one week, two weeks or three months, the importance is to have it done properly and effectively so however long it takes,” Embree said.
He said these type of incidents are rare.
The name of the boy is not being released by police but a GoFundMe page has been set up and is identifying the child as Cammie Mushanski.
