Starting Oct. 1, those with sleep apnea and need a continuous positive airway pressure — or CPAP — machine in Saskatchewan will be able to rest a little easier as the government shifts how it funds the devices.
Patients can get a rather large discount when leasing the machine thanks to the Saskatchewan government bulk purchasing process.
Shawn Lawlor with the Provincial Sleep Group said this is beneficial for those who need the machines.
“There’s been pressure from the community to have this program put in place and this is their answer. It’s a program they can access,” Lawlor said. “The is a group of patients that simply don’t have benefits and don’t qualify at all for extended care. It’s really good news for that group.”
The price of a CPAP machine is normally $1,500, but patients will be able to receive one on loan from the province at a one-time payment of $275 for the life of the machine.
