Winter storm season has arrived in parts of southwest Saskatchewan.
Environment Canada issued a winter storm warning for Cypress Hills, Maple Creek, Shaunavon, Leader and Gull Lake.
The Swift Current area is also under a weather warning with heavy rainfall turning to snow and expected to last until Tuesday.
Environment Canada meteorologist John Paul Cragg said the storm system could drop as much as 30 to 40 centimetres of snow in parts of the southwest on Monday and Tuesday.
Ron Plummer is at the Co-op Gas Station in Maple Creek and by 10:30 a.m. Monday morning, they already had about five or six inches of heavy wet snow. He said people are already telling him that driving conditions are pretty treacherous on Highway 1.
“People have been trying to go to Swift Current and leave town and they’re coming back and saying ‘we almost hit the ditch and we’re not going anywhere,'” Plummer commented.
He joked that he definitely wasn’t ready for the snow just yet and he had to dig out all his winter gear this morning.
Meanwhile, Humboldt and Outlook areas are under a heavy rainfall warning and could get between 50 and 70 millimetres of rain throughout the day.
