Sask. residents find surprising damage after fierce winds

The wind storm Tuesday night tore through Jeff Markewich’s office like a Tasmanian devil.

He was just one of the people in Saskatchewan cleaning up from Tuesday’s monstrous wind storm.

Markewich is a public servant with a corner office on the 14th floor of the Victoria Tower across from the Ramada in Regina’s downtown.

He arrived to work to a sign on his door saying “do not enter” which, for a split second, he thought was his colleagues pulling a prank.

“The windows hadn’t been boarded up or anything yet so basically there was a lot of glass everywhere, my papers were strewn about all over the place as well,” Markewich described. “There were a couple of photo frames damaged and some of my children’s pictures, but they can be replaced.”

On the street broken glass could still be seen littering some of the sidewalk and curb.

The metal blind that lined Markewich’s window flapped loudly on the outside of the building. Building maintenance have told Markewich the glass should be replaced by the end of the week.

Andy Keys wasn’t so lucky in Swift Current when he checked the yard of his business: A-M Delivery and Courier Services.

The force of the wind had moved a 53-foot semi on top of his Range Rover.

“I’m sure it will buff out,” Keys joked, having parked his vehicle thinking it would be protected by the wind.

Some of the other vehicles in his yard had smashed out windows but nothing as extreme as the semi.
