A recent study showed advertisers are most enthused about being involved with the NBA, followed by the embattled NFL, Major League Soccer, baseball, NASCAR, the NHL and lastly — at one percent! — came the PGA Tour.
When Woods was in his prime, sports fans were transfixed as he pursued Jack Nicklaus’ record of winning 18 majors.
Now he’s 42, weakened by personal scandals and numerous back surgeries, and replaced by 20-somethings like Justin Thomas and Jordan Spieth.
Pro golfers have never been better.
But they don’t provide the intensity or the dramatics that have been missing since Woods last played the tour full-time in 2013.
Woods may never again be competitive on the pro tour, but his return will at least attractive anyone with a sense of curiosity.
