A La Ronge couple’s vacation budget just got a whole lot bigger.
Rod Holinaty of La Ronge is the winner of the Aug. 5 Lotto 6/49 jackpot of $14.2 million.
He said he bought the tickets as he was getting ready to fly out for a week of work. The ticket actually sat unclaimed for some time after the winning numbers were announced.
Holinaty credited longtime partner Verna Tremblay with prodding him to check his numbers.
“She kept bugging me all week to check my tickets but I just left them in my locker at work, checked them when I flew home,” he said.
When he got home, winning ticket in hand, one of Holinaty’s first moves was to make it official with Tremblay.
“(I took) a boat to my cabin where my spouse is staying, and I asked her if she wanted to marry a millionaire,” he said.
Tremblay accepted the proposal. The couple plans to get married and then use their lottery money to travel and help out family.
