Despite some delays this week, many farmers in Saskatchewan are ahead of the game when it comes to harvest this time of year.
Sixteen per cent of crops in the province are combined, with 19 per cent ready to be swathed or straight cut. The five-year average for this time of year is six per cent combined.
Producers in the southwest are the furthest ahead, with 33 per cent of crops in the bin. Producers in the northeast are furthest behind at two per cent.
Rain and cold weather have put a damper on harvest in some places this week – some places got two and a half inches of rain.
The province has gotten some reports of bleaching, staining, or sprouting of cereal crops, as well as damage from localized hail, wind, and frost.
