The Riders are on an eastern road trip for the duration of the playoffs, and one Saskatchewan couple is following the team’s travels.
Brin Werrett is the president of the Regina Thunder Football Club and was in Windsor, Ont. for meetings last week.
While there, Werrett and his wife decided to travel to Ottawa to watch the East Semi-Final. Now, much like the Riders, their trip isn’t stopping there.
“We have the whole week off work, so when the big win happened we said, ‘Well, might as well stay,’” Werrett said.
The Rider fan said he was surprised there wasn’t more green in the crowd during the Eastern Conference Semi-Final in Ottawa Sunday.
He added that many Saskatchewan fans who call Ontario home are on cloud nine because of the possibility the Riders could be playing three major games in the east.
Werrett added Ottawa fans were some of the most polite he’s ever met.
“We had a few Redblacks fans boo us as we walked by, but they would follow that up with ‘Good luck today.’”
During the game, Werrett and his wife were seated by another Rider fan: Brandon Bridge’s mom.
“She was very nice and she must know a lot of players – they all came up and said hi to her after the game.”
He encouraged people to get out to a game in Ottawa because the facilities are some of the best he’s attended.
As for the upcoming Eastern Conference Final in Toronto Sunday, Werrett expects there will be a lot of green in the stands.
