A Weyburn couple is hoping to paint the United Kingdom green this weekend.
Debbie May and her partner, Dean Brown, made a stop for some Saskatchewan Roughriders gear before catching their flight out of Regina to England Saturday morning.
May said she wants her British friends to help cheer the team on while they’re in the playoffs, too.
“We told them that if there’s anybody from Saskatchewan in England or Scotland while we’re there, they will find them,” she said with a smile.
She added that Rider pride knows no borders.
“Rider gear is international — the Saskatchewan Roughriders seem to be international — we always seem to find each other if we have the gear on,” May said, adding that she often sees people sporting a Rider hat or jersey during her international travels.
While their friends are more interested in soccer, she joked that taking some Rider gear overseas will help twist their arm to become “real football fans.”
“I think we’ll be explaining the game quite a bit to them and how we can get just as rowdy as soccer fans,” laughed May.
“It’s just something to talk about and laugh about. Maybe if we can find a place where the game will be on, maybe we can get them interested in Saskatchewan.”
