Maidstone RCMP is having plant samples tested to determine if they are marijuana or hemp.
A farmer in the area came across some plants on Monday that he thought were marijuana growing in his field north of Waseca.
The farmer contacted police and RCMP found about 3,150 plants suspected to be marijuana.
On Tuesday, RCMP cut down all the plants and samples were sent for testing. The plants will be destroyed.
Last year between April and October, two similar cases were investigated by the RCMP. One of the cases was in the Saskatoon area and the other was in the Battleford area.
Early this August, a similar case was investigated by the Fort Qu’Appelle RCMP.
In all cases, the plant turned out to be hemp.
Waseca is located on Highway 16, just west of Maidstone.
