The Regina Humane Society is hoping to find 170 homeless pets ‘furever’ homes this holiday season with its new adoption campaign.
The month-long Home for the Holidays adoption campaign features a special video, promoting both adoption and adoption sponsorship.
“What a better gift to give a homeless animal than a caring family and a warm home?” said Lisa Koch, executive director of the Humane Society, in a release.
“If an individual or family has carefully considered their decision and the responsibility of a new pet, the holidays can be an optimum time to adopt. Families are more likely to be off work or school during the holidays and have more time to spend with each other and with their new companion animal.”
People can go to the Humane Society to get a gift certificate for a new pet to give to those who both have an interest in owning one and the ability to take care of the animal responsibly.
Despite the misconception around gifting an animal, the shelter said research shows that pets given as gifts are less likely to be surrendered.
Adoptions from the Humane Society include spay/neuter surgery, vaccinations, tattoo, microchip, complimentary vet exam at a vet clinic in the area and 30 days of free pet insurance.
As for families unable to take an animal home for the holidays, they can still help out by sponsoring the adoption of a homeless pet.
