A family in Yorkton is grateful for a random act of kindness by a community safety officer from Edenwold who saved the day for a wedding in Yorkton.
On the last Thursday in August, Kara Molnar was getting ready for her daughter’s wedding. She and her son had driven to Regina from Yorkton with a trailer, and picked up a bunch of rented supplies. They were heading back to Yorkton when they hit a snag.
“Just out of White City the tire blew off of the trailer … the inside that holds the tire to the axle was gone. So it wasn’t a flat tire, the rim was totally bent and it just, it was not usable,” she explained.
Molnar said they spent the next hour on the side of the road.
“I was frantically trying to phone anywhere that could rent us a new trailer, but of course, it being the end of the month there was not a trailer to be had anywhere.”

Molnar said they needed to get to start setting things up; the wedding was only two days away.
Then, community safety officer Ron Roteliuk pulled up. Molnar described him as a God-send.
“He said ‘Hello, how you doing?’ and my first words to him (were) ‘Do you have a trailer I could rent?'”
He chatted with her and her son for a while. Molnar said she thought he was sizing them up, and eventually said he did, in fact, have a trailer they could borrow.
“I offered to give him some payment or something, he said ‘No, just go and get your things done for the wedding and have a good time.'”
They got a tow truck to take their trailer to a place where it could get fixed, and they loaded the rented supplies onto Roteliuk’s trailer.
Molnar is incredibly grateful. She called his kindness amazing.
She said they took the trailer back to Roteliuk on Monday, along with a thank you card and a gift card to show their appreciation.
“It was just wonderful, and absolutely heartwarming that a complete stranger would even offer that … His random act of kindness saved our day.”

NOTE: A previous version of this story indicated that Ron Roteliuk was an RCMP officer. A correction has been made to reflect that he is a community safety officer with the R.M. of Edenwold.
