Evidence discussed ahead of trial for pair accused in Regina child's death

The pair charged in the killing of a four-year-old girl while she was in their foster care three years ago in Regina were back in court Monday.

Tammy and Kevin Goforth were there for a voir dire, which often examines certain pieces of evidence to see if they would be admissible to use in a trial. Details of the proceeding are under a publication ban.

The two are both charged with second degree murder after June Goforth died in August 2012. They were originally charged with manslaughter but that was upgraded in January 2014. The Goforths are also charged with unlawfully causing bodily harm against June’s then two-year-old sister.

Outside of court, June’s mother Natasha Goforth buried her head into the arms of another family member and hugged her for an extended period of time, the pain stinging her eyes. Other family members gathered around Natasha trying to console her as well. Besides the obvious grief, she said she also felt anger.

The trial for Tammy and Kevin is scheduled to begin Jan. 11, 2016.
