Woman found dead in Regina attic identified as Brooklyn Moose

The body of a woman found dead in the attic of a home in North Central has been identified as missing person Brooklyn Moose.

Her body was removed Friday evening through a hole cut in the outside wall of the home on Athol Street at the corner of 3rd Avenue.

The 26-year-old, who also went by the last name of Sabit, was last seen on that same block in February. She became the subject of a missing person investigation in July.

Regina police do not consider her death to be criminal because at this point. There has been no evidence found to suggest any wrongdoing. However, the coroner continues to investigate and clarify the circumstances surrounding her death.

“The word ‘missing’ nowadays seems to evoke a great deal of emotion and fear, but it is not a crime for someone to stop having contact with family or friends,” said police spokesperson Elizabeth Popowich.

Moose went missing with warrants out for her arrest. Police explained there were attempts to locate Moose, but not to the extent of a door-to–door search.

“We didn’t have an indication that she’d come to any harm. It certainly was possible that she was choosing not to have contact with family and friends,” said Popowich.

The details of Moose’s arrest warrants are not being released but Popowich explains they were for relatively minor matters.

“Although, that again may have presented a possible reason that she was avoiding contact with police or with others,” said Popowich.

After she was identified by police, the title of the Facebook page set up to find Moose was changed to “In Loving Memory of Brooklyn Moose-Sabit”.
