The race for chief of the Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations (FSIN) is officially underway.
Helen Ben from Makwa Sahgaiehcan First Nation, Bobby Cameron from Witchekan Lake First Nation, and Leo Omani from Wahpeton Dakota First Nation are on the ballot for chief.
Kimberly Jonathan will move into the First Vice-Chief office after the position was uncontested after Monday’s nomination deadline passed.
Jonathan has been serving as FSIN interim chief since Perry Bellegarde resigned last December and later was elected Chief of the National Assembly of First Nations.
Dutch Lerat was also unopposed. He will be acclaimed 3rd Vice-Chief.
The position of 2nd Vice Chief will be decided in a byelection. The byelection and general elections will be held Oct. 28 and 29 in Saskatoon.
