Saskatchewan snaps out of extreme cold

You may be able to shed some of those extra winter layers as Saskatchewan starts coming out of the deep freeze.

After extreme cold warnings and temperatures below -30 C through most of last week, the weather is warming up to start the year closer to seasonal average temperatures around -11 C.

“It’s finally warming up, there’s some mild Pacific air that’s managed to work its way into Alberta and is being dragged east across the prairies,” explained meteorologist with Environment Canada, Brad Vrojik.

He said there will likely be some temperature differences between the eastern and western parts of Saskatchewan as colder air moves into Manitoba.

“You might see overnight lows closer to -25 C right near the (MB) border, meanwhile closer to Alberta you wind up with overnight lows closer to -10 C,” Vrojik said.

Vrojik said those seasonal temperatures should stick around until the end of the week at least, although the forecast shows it will be getting colder again later in the month.
