Zach Collaros isn’t the same quarterback who signed a million-dollar contract with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.
It showed in 2017 when he was winless as a starter before being relegated to backup duty despite being the league’s highest-paid player.
Collaros is a 29-year-old, six-year CFL veteran, who has had major knee surgery and two head injuries. He started his career with the Toronto Argonauts, learning from Ricky Ray and Scott Milanovich how to be brash, cocky, talented and fearless. He doesn’t look like that anymore.
That doesn’t mean Collaros can’t become the same quarterback who led the Tiger-Cats into the 2014 Grey Cup game. The Saskatchewan Roughriders are hoping he can return to form. That’s why they traded a second-round draft choice for Collaros and immediately expressed a desire to reduce his reported salary of $540,000. That’s a lot of money for a quarterback who might not be the Riders’ starter.
