Overtime hasn’t been friendly to the Saskatoon Blades after dropping two sudden-death decisions over the weekend.
The Blades were home to the Medicine Hat Tigers Friday where they jumped out to an early two-goal lead in the opening period with goals by Nikita Soshnin and Ryan Graham.
The Tigers clawed their way back with a goal in the second by Chad Butcher. Mason Shaw evened the score early in the third period. The Blades struggled to reach the net recording only three shots in the third.
Steven Owre completed the comeback within three minutes of the extra frame.
After a day off on Saturday the Blades were back in action Sunday night at SaskTel Centre facing the Vancouver Giants.
This time Saskatoon fell behind early after early first and second period goals by the visitors. Despite out-shooting the Giants 34 to 16 in the last 40 minutes, Vancouver held on to a one-goal lead heading into the third.
Led by forwards Cameron Hebig and Graham, the Blades crawled back in the third period scoring the game-tying-goal on the powerplay with just seconds left to play.
Two minutes into overtime the Giants ousted the Blades with a goal from Jacob Stukel.
After four games the Blades sit with one win and three overtime losses. Saskatoon hosts the Kootenay Ice on Wednesday, Oct. 7.
