Prince Albert Airport at standstill after plane crash

A plane crash brought the Prince Albert Airport to a standstill Monday afternoon. 

The single engine plane crashed shortly after takeoff at around 2 p.m. It rested off the end of the runway, its landing gear undeployed. No fires were reported.

Airport authorities confirm it was a private plane, but could not specify who owned it.

Parkland Ambulance said the 40-year-old pilot and his 13-year-old daughter were not injured in the crash. There were no other passengers. 

Officials would not comment whether the crash was due to mechanical failure or pilot error, saying that any one in a million things could have gone wrong to cause the crash. 

Clearing the runway was expected to take at least two hours, causing a ripple effect of delays to nearby airports. Flights from Prince Albert to Collins Bay and Macleans Lake were rerouted to Saskatoon by bus.
