Officer attacked, car chase lead police across Regina

Regina police were led on a chase across half the city on Monday night that involved a vehicle driving into oncoming traffic and an officer being bear sprayed.

It all started in the warehouse district around 9:30 Monday night. Officers tried to pull over a brown Crown Victoria near Dewdney Avenue and St. John Street because it didn’t have a rear license plate, but the vehicle took off.

Police say, for the next 15 minutes, it was spotted in various places downtown, running traffic lights and driving into oncoming traffic.

The vehicle was eventually found abandoned in the Glen Elm area, near 10th Avenue and Lacon Street. Police put a perimeter around the area.

Soon a cab was stopped trying to leave the perimeter – a man and a woman were in the cab along with the driver.

When an officer tried to detain them, police say the man attacked the officer with bear spray, then kicked the cab driver out, and drove off with the cab.

Police caught up with the vehicle on Victoria Avenue, and, with authorization to conduct a high-risk vehicle stop, used an immobilization maneuver.

The two people were arrested, and police say they found a can of bear spray, and what they believe to be methamphetamine in the vehicle.

The charges for Chelsea Colegrave, 28, and Aaron Brass, 20, are still being compiled, but police say they will include weapons charges, and assaulting a police officer with a weapon.

Brass is also being charged on previous warrants in connection with an aggravated assault from Oct 1, and the recovery of a stolen vehicle on Oct 6.
