Extreme wind chills hold on for one more day across Sask.

Anyone hoping for a reprieve from the cold snap will have to wait a little bit longer, but a warm-up is right around the corner.

Environment Canada issued yet another extreme cold warning on Monday for parts of the province. The cold warning was dropped for Saskatoon and for Regina later in the morning.

With highs around -20 C, extreme wind chills could get down close to -40 C.

Environment Canada meteorologist Mark Melsness said the cold snap should be coming to an end by Tuesday night.

“We have an arctic high-pressure area sliding through southern Saskatchewan so it will exit the province tonight (Monday),” he told the 980 CJME Morning Show Monday.

Melsness noted wind chills are only expected to get down to -38 C Monday night which isn’t quite cold enough to spark an extreme cold warning.

When asked which region has dealt with the worst of the cold weather, Melsness admitted the warnings have been prolonged and widespread across the Prairies.

By Tuesday evening temperatures could warm up to -10 C and by the middle of the week temperatures could get above 0 C which should last until Friday.

“It looks like there might be a slight cool down on the weekend but we’re not really looking for a repeat of these extreme cold values any time in the near future,” Melsness said.

Catholic and Public school buses in the Regina area are running normally.
