Regina police are calling the Jan. 11 fire on Halifax Street and 7th Avenue suspicious and are asking anyone with information to come forward.
The fire started around 7 a.m. and was extinguished quickly once firefighters arrived at the scene. Everyone inside the building got out safely.
Security camera footage showing multiple angles from the outside of the building was released on Facebook over the weekend. The videos appear to show a person wearing a dark jacket and light pants crouching down to start a fire next to the building then running from the scene.
According to the post and his lawyer, the building’s owner is offering a $500,000 reward for information. Regina lawyer Tony Merchant is representing the owner, and said his client has directed any calls regarding the reward to his office.
The post has been shared more than 1,400 times and the videos themselves have more than 50,000 views.
980 CJME has attempted to reach the building owner by phone but so far those calls have not been returned.
Police have no suspects in custody and have laid no charges at this time. In an email, a police spokesperson said the investigation into the blaze could take some time, with the video footage forming only part of the evidence in the case.
