Fifty complaints were made against the Saskatoon Police Service between April 2014 and March 2015 according to the Saskatchewan Public Complaints Commission (PCC) annual report.
But the government-appointed police watchdog shows only two of those complaints were substantiated, down from more than 20 substantiated complaints between April 2013 and March 2014. Both had to do with discreditable conduct, but the details of the cases were not made available in the report on complaints made against Saskatchewan police.
The majority of the fifty complaints were either dropped, unfounded or haven’t been completed, the report shows.
In Regina, three out of 51 complaints against police were deemed substantiated. Two involved discreditable conduct while the third was for a major neglect of duty.
Photo radar recommendation
The Saskatoon Police Service (SPS) said it should take no longer than 30 days to issue a photo radar ticket after a violation is detected.
The recommendation was received as information during Thursday’s Board of Police Commissioners meeting.
Cameras have been rotating around school zones and on Circle Drive since the Automated Speed Enforcement (ASE) pilot project officially started issuing tickets in March.
The report also noted that drivers “will not receive a ticket for going a few kilometers over the posted speed limit.”
