‘I love sports and entertainment:’ Evraz Place reveals next CEO

Evraz Place has seen a lot of growth in recent years and the organization revealed the person who is going to lead them into the future.

After a national search, Regina Exhibition Association Limited (REAL), who run and operate the Brandt Centre and Mosaic Stadium, announced Tim Reid as their incoming President and CEO.

Reid is coming from Northlands — which is Edmonton’s largest entertainment and events supplier — and has worked with teams like the Edmonton Oilers, Oil Kings and Rush.

Reid said this opportunity to come to Regina was one that got him back to a passion of his.

“I played football for 18 years, I love the Canadian Football League and I love sports and entertainment.”

Reid is excited to work with the Riders, who he described, though he admits his kids might disagree, as the best team in the CFL.

Reid has worked in the sports and entertainment industry since he graduated from university in 2003.

Mark Allan will be retiring March 5, which is when Reid will take over.

“I think Mark’s advice was we have the best fans in the entire country and he was quite clear with that and what he did say is ‘you need to spend a lot of time connecting with the community.’”

Reid will take over the reigns during a busy time for Evraz Place, with the Tim Hortons Brier being underway which will be followed by the 2018 Memorial Cup.

“It’s just the first test on where we can go in terms of national and international properties,” Reid said.

He said one of the challenges working in a medium market is that booking events needs creativity.

Reid noted they had many great bands perform while he was at Northlands, including Taylor Swift, Madonna and Shania Twain, but says The Tragically Hip was the best show.

While having the Hip play Regina can no longer become a reality, he is excited about the upcoming Eagles concert.

“The Eagles on a spring day in Regina is going to be something special and I think that should be a fantastic show.”
