Vince McMahon promised a lot of things when he re-launched the XFL.
Fast paced, family friendly with no players with rap sheets, focusing on player safety and no crossover between the XFL and his other enterprise, WWE.
That is a complete 180 from the first go around of the one and done league that highlighted nasty hits, skimpy cheerleader outfits, anyone can play and a bunch of WWE superstars trying to rev up ratings.
The odds, however, of this working is slim.
First off, Vince was still the front man at the league’s launch.
Just Vince.
And when you see Vince McMahon with the XFL logo, you can’t help but picture the circus of his first football league.
And that’s the problem. The brand is already damaged and people are a lot more skeptical than they were last time.
But he’s giving it time.
2020 is the launch and McMahon knows how to promote. It’s going to be interesting watching the next two years play out and if the XFL can actually sell itself as a viable, entertaining alternative.
