Weyburn man fined for illegal hunting

A Weyburn man will have to pay $5,000 in fines after being found guilty of illegal hunting.

The Ministry of Environment began its investigation after calls were made to the Turn In Poachers (TIP) line. Two bull moose and one while-tailed deer were shot illegally in November 2011.

The suspect was identified, and found to be using fake documents from another person’s treaty number. He also had an illegal processed black bear rug.

Dustin Hoskins, 35, faces $5,000 of fines after being found guilty of four charges under the Saskatchewan Wildlife Act and one charge under the Criminal Code. Those include unlawful hunting of a moose, unlawful possession of a white-tailed deer, unlawful possession of a black bear, falsifying a document and resisting arrest. He was also suspended from hunting for two years.

Cody Obyrne, 38, also of Weyburn was also found guilty of aiding and abetting Hoskins in harvesting the moose. He was fined $1,500 and suspended from hunting for one year.
