A Saskatoon man accused of assaulting his wife a month before she died from unknown causes has been granted bail.
Michael Paul Welsh, 43, was arrested on Sept. 17 and charged with aggravated assault stemming from an incident on Sept. 13. The details of what allegedly happened, which were revealed during last week’s bail hearing, are protected by a publication ban, as are the reasons for Welsh’s release from custody.
His 45-year-old wife was found dead on Thanksgiving Day in the couple’s rented home in the Willowgrove neighbourhood. Welsh was on remand at the time and is not charged in connection to the woman’s death, which police say did not involve foul play.
As part of his bail conditions, Welsh is not allowed to contact his wife’s family or attend her funeral. He is also banned from using drugs and alcohol and must be in his home between 11 p.m. and 6 a.m.
Welsh will be back in court next week.
