Carter caught with more than 30 grams of pot: Manitoba RCMP

When Roughrider Duron Carter was arrested at the Winnipeg airport in November he had a significant amount of pot with him, according to Manitoba RCMP.

650 CKOM learned last week that Carter had been arrested at the Saskatoon airport late Thursday and was charged with possession of marijuana. The quantity of marijuana he was caught with last week was not clear.

Late Friday it was confirmed he had also been arrested and charged in Winnipeg in November for possession of a controlled substance.

Manitoba RCMP said Monday that Carter was alleged to have more than 30 grams of pot with him at the time of his arrest.

Even once marijuana is legal in Canada, possession of more than 30 grams will still be against the law.

Carter took to Twitter following news of his arrest for marijuana possession tweeting “I know, I know. Life,” along with a facepalm emoji.

The Riders confirmed the Saskatoon arrest in a statement on Friday afternoon.

“We are working to gather more information and continue to monitor the situation,” the statement said in part.

The football club has made no further comment on the matter.

Carter was named the Riders’ most outstanding player for the 2016-17 CFL season, amassing 73 catches for 1,043 yards and eight touchdowns in 17 starts at wide receiver.

He also started one game as a defensive back, in which he picked up nine tackles and an interception which he ran back 43 yards for a touchdown.

By the end of the season, Carter was named both a CFL all-star and a West Division all-star.

The receiver signed a one-year extension with the Riders on Jan. 22.
