Randy Ambrosie, the CFL commissioner, is coming to Saskatchewan on Saturday as part of his town-hall tour. Hopefully, he gets better P.R. than Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is getting on his town-hall tour.
I had a meeting two weeks ago with Ambrosie at the CFL office in Toronto. We were discussing media coverage of the CFL and brought forward some concerns from the Football Reporters of Canada. On every issue, after we explained our concern, Ambrosie said something pro-active. For something as seemingly minor as making a team’s jersey numbers easier to discern for the play-by-play announcers, Ambrosie said it would be fixed. And he presented a plan. If it couldn’t be fixed immediately, he promised to research the subject to see what could be done.
Fans and media have been pleased with Ambrosie, who is still in his first year on the job. The reason? He listens to people who care about the league — players, coaches, administrators, media and fans. And if something needs fixing, he fixes it.
