The Riders might be waiting a little longer if they hope to sign Ben Heenan.
The team’s former right tackle is back in the NFL after agreeing to join the Indianapolis Colts practice roster on Tuesday.
Heenan was signed by the Colts in the off-season after playing three seasons for the Riders. The Grand Coulee native saw his first chance at an NFL roster cut short after suffering a knee injury in early August during training camp. Heenan was eventually released after reaching an injury settlement.
Since then, Heenan has spent most of his time in Saskatchewan recovering from the injury.
Heenan was the Riders first overall draft pick in 2013. The former University of Saskatchewan Huskie won a Grey Cup with the team that year and started every game for the team in 2014.
