A crash at a railway crossing on Ring Road is still slowing traffic more than a week after it happened.
On Jan. 30, a semi collided with a train on the Canadian Pacific Railway line on the busy thoroughfare near Winnipeg Street.
No one was injured in the crash, but the railway crossing light system was damaged.
As of Friday – 10 days since the crash – there’s a sign on the Winnipeg Street exit to Ring Road warning drivers the crossing lights are still out and speed restrictions are in place.
Temporary traffic lights have been set up on Ring Road, along with several speed restriction signs in both directions between McDonald Street and the Winnipeg Street overpass telling drivers to slow to 50 km/h.
The City of Regina confirmed by email it is working with CP Rail to ensure public safety by posting advance warning signs and speed restrictions.
“In addition, one lane of traffic in each direction will be restricted when a train approaches, and CP will have flaggers stop traffic when a train is crossing,” said Norman Kyle, director of roadways and transportation, in an emailed statement.
Police officers have been seen patrolling the area to enforce the speed limit.
