Two people have been found dead outside a home in Meadow Lake.
RCMP originally got a call at around 10 a.m. Thursday morning about shots being fired. Once officers arrived on the scene, they found the bodies of two men.
Details are limited at this point but RCMP say there is no risk to the public.
Nik Olesiuk is a local radio broadcaster. After visiting the scene on Thursday afternoon, he described a huge police presence with most of the block taped off.
“It’s a residential neighbourhood. It’s very close to the Northwest Regional College and Carpenter High. There’s also a high rise right across the street from it,” he said, after driving by the scene at the corner of 5th Street West and 6th Avenue West.
People working at a nearby business said one customer in the morning described hearing a sound like a car backfiring.
The incident prompted Meadow Lake’s Carpenter High School to go into a hold-and-secure mode.
Kaitlyn Harman with the North West School Division explained the school took the step on the recommendation of RCMP.
“What that means is that it was a perimeter lockdown,” she explained. “So we were operating business as usual in the school, but no one was entering or leaving the building.”
The hold-and-secure was lifted about an hour after the complaint came in.
